Mission Statement

The mission of the Belmar Elementary School Media Center is to support the curriculum of the Belmar School System by purchasing relevant resources and delivering rigorous instruction. Our goal is to help students become information literate, life-long readers who use technology to become informed members of society.

Library Media Center Databases

Databases are resources that are fact-checked. That means that experts go through every article to make sure that they are correct. The school subscribes to several databases that you can use. The website is Ebscohost.

  • NoveList Plus - NovelList can help you to find new books to read based on what books you like.
  • Referencia Latina - General database on many subjects, in Spanish.
  • Salud en Espanol (CHC Spanish Version) - A health-focused database in Spanish.
  • EBSCOhost Research Databases - This is the best place to start for research projects for middle school.
  • Student Research Center - This is a good place to start for both middle school and grades 4-5.
  • Points of View - Points of view looks at popular topics that have more than one opinion. Some examples, could be cell phones in schools, abortion, school uniforms, etc…
  • Searchasaurus – Elementary School - A visual search determined by reading level.
  • Kids Search – Middle & Elementary School - Search by specific classes, such as math or language arts.
  • Business Searching Interface - Use this to look up a company.
  • History Reference Center - A great resource for social studies.
  • Literary Reference Center - A great resource for language arts, especially for middle school. Look at authors and different types of writing.
  • Science Reference Center - This has resources on a lot of different science topics.

Borrowing Policies

You can check out books for 2 weeks at a time. If no one else has put a hold on it, you can renew it for another 2 weeks.

Kindergarten – 2nd Grade:
You can check out one book at a time.

3rd-4th grade:
You can check out up to 2 books at a time, and more if needed for a school project.

5th – 8th grade:
You can check out up to 2 books at a time, and more if needed for a school project.

Fees
There are no late fees. We do not want any student to not want to come to the library because they made a mistake. However, if a book is lost or irreparably damaged, it will need to be replaced. Student report cards may also be held for books that a more than a month overdue.
