BELMAR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Inspired ● United ● Prepared
Soaring To Excellence
Dear BES Families,
On behalf of the Belmar School District administration, faculty, and staff, we would like to extend a warm welcome to our students and their families as we begin the 2021-22 school year. We want to thank all of our families and community for their support last year as we navigated the global pandemic together.
The safety of our students, faculty and staff will continue to be our first and foremost priority. We will continue to follow the New Jersey Department of Education guidelines in regards to the safety protocols that are put in place. Therefore, anyone entering the school building will be required to wear a mask. Staff and students will also have to complete the daily covid form.
We look forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. We are excited to share with our families new initiatives that we will be introducing this school year.
As we reflect upon the last 18 months, Social Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons will continue to play a significant role in our instructional plan. As part of the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Mental Health Grant, the district utilized funds to hire an additional mental health counselor. The mental health counselor along with our crisis intervention team will assist teachers with checking-in on students, have open-ended discussion forums as well as teach daily SEL lessons. Additionally, we will reinstate our Positive Behavior Supports In Schools Program (PBSIS) which is a multi-tiered system of support for behavior and social-emotional wellness that promotes equity for all students. It will continue to be known as the The SOAR Program at Belmar Elementary School as students will learn what it means to SOAR to excellence by showing Respect, Responsibility and Kindness.
We look forward to continuing our multi-tier approach to the early identification and support of students’ needs through a system known as Response to Intervention (RTI). RTI consists of a data driven process to inform decisions that lead to student achievement. Through this process, we will be able to personalize learning by targeting strengths, areas of weakness and any learning loss due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The district utilized Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Funds (ESSER) to obtain two data coaches, one for ELA and one for Math as well as seven interventionists. This RTI team will create a well integrated system of instruction and intervention to support teaching and learning guided by child outcome data in which all students will benefit.
Belmar Elementary School has continued to embrace 21st century learning by providing STEM enrichment opportunities for students. As part of the ESSER Acceleration Grant, the district utilized funds to hire a Gifted and Talented teacher to focus on STEM enrichment in the middle school grades. The program will complement classroom learning and teaching by providing exciting, engaging, hands-on experiences.
This year at BES we are pleased to announce that we will be starting the school year with air conditioning!! The district is undergoing a complete building HVAC system overhaul this summer and will be fitted with vertical unit ventilators. These units will be equipped with bipolar ionization systems that will produce pathogen fighting ions that actively disinfect the air.
The basketball court is almost complete. We are so excited for our students to be able to use the court during their recess times. Thank you again to our PTO for making this happen!
As we prepare for the opening of the 2021-22 school year, please log on to the Genesis Parent Portal. It will be open on Monday, August 23, 2021. Please log in at that time so that you can check your child’s teacher. You will have to fill out important documents and forms, before you can see your child’s placement. If you need assistance accessing Genesis Parent Portal please email the email@example.com.
