BELMAR, NJ — Belmar Elementary School has been celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month these last few weeks, recognizing the contributions that Hispanic-Americans have made to history, the world and their community.

Hispanic Heritage Month is a nationally recognized time of the year that takes place from September 15 to October 15. The celebration was created in 1968 as “Hispanic Heritage Week” until 1988 when it was extended to a month. It recognizes “the contributions and influence of Hispanic-Americans to the history, culture, and achievements for the United States.”

Belmar Elementary has been busy honoring Hispanic Heritage by engaging in activities surrounding Hispanic heritage, as well as putting up decorations to recognize the celebration.
